CHP WLADYSLAWOWO

The heat and power generating plant is situated in Władysławowo in the industrial and harbour area. Władysławowo is situated at the foot of the Hel Peninsula near the Coastal Landscape Park. The facility has been constructed on the site of a disused coal fired boiler and sewage treatment plant, particular consideration was given to the aesthetic design to ensure that it blended well with the local environment. The town, which is inhabited by about 12 thousand inhabitants, is a health resort. In the summer season the number of inhabitants increases to as many as 60 thousand.

The heat and power generating plant in Władysławowo is a unique enterprise in the national or even European region. It utilizes the natural gas which is associated with production of crude oil from the B3 oil field and would otherwise be flared off as waste gas.

The natural gas, about 100,000 m3 per day, is supplied via a newly constructed undersea pipeline to the shore. Before, 90% of the gas was unproductively flared on the platform, negatively affecting the environment. Only a small part of this gas (10%) was used for the power requirements of the platform.

Meanwhile, the waste gas has an interesting chemical composition. It includes only 45% of methane but it is very rich in heavy hydrocarbons – over 20% of propane–butane and its calorific value amounts to 54 MJ/Nm3. Therefore the heat and power generating plant was extended by a gas refining facility, where liquid fractions – propane–butane and heavier hydrocarbons are separated from "wet gas", this represents an important element of the project as regards income. As a result of this, CHP Władysławowo manufactures four products: electricity, heat, LPG and condensate natural gas. After separation of LPG and condensate natural gas, a light gas (a mix of methane and ethane) is transferred to feed gas turbines and water boilers. Liquefied propane–butane and condensate natural gas are stored and sold to other companies.
